Flower essences are commonly used for anxiety, depression, fear, anger, resentment, grief, impatience, lack of confidence, lack of motivation, jealousy, envy, hatred, self-loathing, and many other emotional problems. Flower essences do not interfere with medications or herbal preparations. You can try one essence at a time or mix a combination formula. I believe they are very effective when used in a combination form. The personalized formula not only covers the surface emotion but it goes to the issues behind the negative feelings that are on the surface. Usually the emotion on the surface is the alternate mask we choose to wear. It is what lies underneath that is more difficult to deal with. Some people are able to feel the positive effects of a flower essence within fifteen to twenty minutes after taking one dose of a remedy. Some report feeling subtle changes over several day or weeks. Flower essences can bring a much clearer perception of a situation as it helps us to see things in a better light. They can bring a calm and peaceful state of mind as they help us relax into the moment. As they help us address the negative emotions our body is able to release the tension that stores that emotion in a physical form. When the body is able to release these negative feelings it is able to relax giving a calm state of being. They are very safe for children and pets as well and they usually respond to them quickly. There are some flower essences that can help children to focus and sit still. For those who have a problem with concentration there are other essences. If your child is nervous about an upcoming test a couple doses of Bach Flower Rescue Remedy could help to calm them so they are better able to focus. This five flower combination is wonderful when stressful situations arise. The great thing about flower essences I have found is they won't make you tired like some medications can. They don't cover up or mask the sad or depressing feelings like Prozac and Zoloft.
The flower essences companies I use include Bach Flower Remedies, The Master Essences and the Pacific Flower and Sea Essences. If you would like to put together your own formula I have included three questions with each essence see how many you answer yes to. When you first begin reading the essence descriptions, it may seem as if they all apply to you. However, you should try to limit your combination to a maximum of 7 or 8 essences, if you can. Look through the following listing and check the questions you feel strongly apply to you at this moment. If you answer yes to all 3 questions for one flower, then this essence should be a part of your formula. If you answer yes to all three question for more than eight remedies you should choose the ones that address the most important issue you are trying to deal with at the moment. For example if you suffer from depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts you should consider the flower essences that address the feeling of wanting to harm yourself first and maybe add a couple for the depression. You may find that working on the depression and the suicidal impulses will calm the anxiety. This information is not intended to take the place of a proper mental health practitioner. These remedies can be used in conjunction with psychotherapy or analysis from a licensed health care worker. If you have serious emotional problems it is suggested that you consult with a practitioner who is knowledgeable in the use of flower essences. This could make your progress that much more effective by breaking through mental and emotional barriers more quickly. Flower essences are a gentle yet very effective way of clearing up blocks in our memory and our way of thinking. They can help us let go of the fears that prevent us from pursuing our dreams and finding what makes us happy. To prepare a flower essence formula add four drops of each chosen essence to a 1 oz. amber or blue cobalt glass bottle with dropper add 1/2 tsp of brandy, apple cider vinegar or vegetable glycerin as a preservative and finish filling with spring water. Shake the formula well before each use. Don't refrigerate or heat the essence at any time. HOW TO TAKE THE ESSENCES: Place four drops of the formula in a 4 oz. glass of juice or water and sip slowly. If it's more convenient for you you can put 8 drops in a 16 oz. bottle of water and sip from it all day. When you put it in a bottle of water and drink it throughout day you keep the vibration going all day without stopping to think about it. You can also place four drops of your formula under your tongue 4 times a day this is the minimum recommended dosage. Remember to take a dose upon arising in the morning and just before laying down to go to sleep at night. If you decide to take a single essence follow the same directions as for a formula. If you choose Rescue Remedy as part of your formula it would be considered one essence and you should use four drops. For those unable to swallow or who are alcohol sensitive, the essences can be applied externally, by moistening the wrists and temples.
Flower essences can be used in the bath as well. They are great for muscle strains, sports injuries, or when you are feeling overworked. A good book I would highly recommend for healing bath formulas is Water Magic by Mary Muryn. It contains some very simple combinations of flower essences, herbs, and essential oils for soothing the body, mind and soul.
